Loyd Star surpasses East Marion

COLUMBIA – The Loyd Star Hornets knocked off the East Marion Eagles 9-5 in a make up Region 7-2A baseball contest Saturday.

“We must clean up our mistakes on defense,” said Loyd Star coach Jared Britt. “Caleb Yarborough pitched a great game. Overall, I was proud to get this big district win. Now, we must prepare for a tough battle against West Lincoln next week.”

The Hornets (11-8, 6-2) resume action Tuesday as they prepare to travel down Jackson-Liberty to battle the West Lincoln Bears in a huge Region 7-2A test. Junior varsity action starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

Loyd Star 9, East Marion 5 

Caleb Yarborough (5-1) pitched the victory for the Hornets. He struck out 10 batters and allowed only one walk.

Quitman Smith suffered the loss for the Eagles with three strikeouts and nine walks.

Seth Farmer powered Loyd Star’s offense as the plate with a triple and a single. He also drove in 4 RBI on the evening. Bradyn Brister provided two singles. Hitting safely were Dorian Beard, Levi Redd and Yarborough.

Jarveean Howard was the top hitter for East Marion with a double and a single. Jonathon Abrams ripped a double. Anthony Ingram, Daveeon Jefferson and Smith had a single apiece.
