Bogue Chitto first in region powerlift

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto powerlifting team captured their fifth straight Region 4-1A championship Saturday. They amassed 80 points and had 10 weight division first place finishers. The Bobcats also had two-second place finishers.

Stringer was runner-up with 45 points. Sacred Heart was third with 24 points. St. Aloysius finished fourth with seven points.

“I was extremely proud of our team’s efforts,” said BC coach Chad Norton. “We broke our own team record that has stood for five years. Now we have a short turn around to start grinding it out in the weight room to prepare for the South State meet next month.”

“I would like to thank everyone who helped make our meet a success,” Norton said, expressing appreciation for the volunteers who helped.

Finishing in first place for the Bobcats were Josh Richardson, 114-pound class; Dakota McGary, 123; Kobe Roberts, 132; Nick Parker, 148; Justin Click, 165; Devin McEwen, 181; Damien Terrell, 198; Jermaine Blackwell, 242; Jeremy Blackwell, 308; and Devaris Bullard, super heavyweight.

Jeremy Blackwell set lifting records of 525 pounds in the squat. Jermaine Blackwell set a deadlift record of 530 pounds. Terrell posed a 425-pound record in the squat. Parker had 405 mark in the deadlift. McGary recorded a 335 in the deadlift.

Bobcats in second place were Austin Buffington, 275; and Seth Hodges, super heavy weight.

The Bobcats will return to action Monday, March 3, to defend their South State crown at they travel to Ridgeland for the South State Championship meet. Lifting times begin at 4 p.m.
