MONTICELLO – Georgia-Pacific Monticello presented two grants totaling $6,000 to the Lawrence County Public Library, which is a part of the Lincoln Lawrence Franklin Regional Library system. The contribution represents the company’s ongoing commitment to education and strengthening the quality of life in the local community.

“Georgia-Pacific knows that public libraries provide their communities with many benefits and are well positioned to play an active and important role in the ever-developing information age,” said Ray Melick, public affairs manager for Georgia-Pacific’s Monticello mill.

“This is an investment in fostering literacy, enhancing education, and providing for a better quality of life for all of us who call this area ‘home.'”

The grants will be used for a summer library program at the Lawrence County Public Library and the New Hebron Public Library to offer incentives for reading, programming and prizes for top readers, as well as helping improve the library’s research capabilities with a new microfilm reader-printer, said Dianne Jones, branch librarian.

“This grant helps the library maintain its essential services while expanding the resources we provide to the community,” Jones said. “We appreciate Georgia-Pacific’s continued support of the Lawrence County Public Library.”
