Panthers edge Terry; Lady Bulldogs win

TERRY – Sophomore guard Lazorian McNulty’s game-winning jumper at the buzzer helps to lift the Brookhaven Panthers over the Terry Bulldogs 62-61 Tuesday in basketball action.

In girls’ action, the Terry Lady Bulldogs ended the Lady Panthers’ four game winning streak with a 63-53 victory.

Brookhaven returns home to host their archrivals the Lawrence County Cougars Friday for three games. Junior varsity action tips off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity games.

Brookhaven 62, Terry 61 

The Panthers and Bulldogs fought hard in a defensive battle as both team came out strong. Terry seized a 29-23 lead in the first quarter. Both schools went scoreless in the second quarter as the Bulldogs carried the 29-23 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Brookhaven managed to overpower Terry to outscore the Bulldogs 39-32 in final two frames to secure the win.

“The guys did a good job fighting back from 11 points down with less than three minutes to play,” said BHS Preston Wilson. “After a pair of free throws put Terry ahead by one point, Lazorian McNulty hit a game-winning jumper in the lane as time expires. It was a team effort and a big road win for the Panthers.”

McNulty led the charge for the Panthers with a game-high 17 points. Fred Trevillion chipped in 12 points. Khalil Newton contributed 10 points and five rebounds. Tavis Moore was the leader on the boards with six rebounds.
