BA Cougars rout Central Private

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars swept the Central Private Rebels in MAIS basketball action Saturday night at John R. Gray Gymnasium.

In the girls game, the Lady Cougars turned up the heat on the Lady Rebels to secure a 68-28 victory.

In boys’ action, the Cougars overpowered Central Private to secure a 60-40 win.

BA 68, Central Private 28 

After a low scoring first quarter the BA Lady Cougars ratcheted up the defense and poured on the points to run away from the Central Private Lady Rebels by a score of 68-28.

Senior guard Lindsey Winborne led the Lady Cougars with 12 points and six rebounds. Marlee Watts chipped in 11 points and dished out five assists to add to the BA total. Laura West led the Lady Rebels from Baker, La., with 10 points on the evening.

BA Head Coach Mack Gardner commented after the game, “I thought we came out very sluggish but picked up our intensity in the second quarter and got things going.

“We did a good job of sharing the ball and ended the game with a team total 22 assist.” Gardner continued, “We have two more games before Thanksgiving, and that will give us an opportunity to clean some things up as we head into December.”

BA 60, Central Private 40 

The Cougars and Rebels battled in a close first half as the Brookhaven Academy held a 21-14 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Cougars came out and overpowered the Rebels 39-26 to secured a 20-point victory.

Junior forward Peyton Hood pumped in a game-high 21 points to lead Brookhaven Academy. Senior guard Zac Smith chipped in with 14 points and Ethan Harris contributed 10 points.
