WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras rallied to defeat the St. Patrick Lady Irish Tuesday night in a best-of-three contest of the Class 3A state slowpitch softball playoffs.

In the opener, St. Patrick edged Wesson 5-3. In Game Two, the Lady Cobras tied the series to force a decisive game with a 7-5 victory. In Game Three, Wesson surpassed the Lady Irish 4-1.

The Lady Cobras (20-8, 5-1) advanced to the second round of the playoffs and visits Philadelphia to battle the Choctaw Central Lady Warriors. Game One begins at 1 p.m., followed by games two and three.

St. Patrick 5, Wesson 3 

The Lady Cobras came out and grab a 3-0 lead by the third inning, before the Lady Irish fought back and tied the game at three-all in the fifth inning.

Both team remained tied at the end of regulation play, forcing extra innings.

In the eighth inning, St. Patrick pushed across two runs and held off Wesson to capture the win.

Raven Blackwell pitched the win for the Lady Irish with one strikeout and one walk.

Cheyenne Gladden suffered the setback for Wesson with one strikeout and five walks.

Hailey Chassion Gladden was the offensive leader for the Lady Cobras with a pair of singles. Kayla Britt and Sarah Robinson contributed a double apiece. Hitting safely were Bailey Middleton, Harmoni Ashley, Sabria Green, Aurianna Vaughn and Amber Brinson.

Emma Castanedo paced St. Patrick’s offense with a double and a single. Raylen Blackwell and Raven Blackwell provided two singles each. Morgan McCrea, Victoria Tyler and Alyssa Hornsby hit safely.

Wesson 7, St. Patrick 5 

The Lady Cobras refusing to go down easy in Game Two, fought hard to break up a four-all tie in the fifth inning by pushing across three runs and only allow one run to cross the plate for the Lady Irish.

Gladden pitched the victory for Wesson with five strikeouts and two walks.

Raven Blackwell took the loss for St. Patrick with no strikeouts and no walks.

Kaitlyn Smith and Bailey Middleton sparked the Lady Cobras with a home run and a single apiece. Gladden fueled the flames with a double and a single. Britt provided a pair of singles. Robinson ripped a double. Ashley, Green and Chassion hit safely.

Castanedo continued her streak, hitting safely and leading the Lady Irish with three singles. McCrea contributed two singles. Hitting safely were Raylen Blackwell, Raven Blackwell and Hornsby.

Wesson 4, St. Patrick 1 

The Lady Cobras’ strong defense overpowered St. Patrick, only allowing one in the seventh inning after Wesson secured a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning.

Gladden secured her second win on the night for Wesson with no strikeouts and two walks.

Blackwell absorbed her second straight loss for the Lady Irish with no strikeouts and one walk.

Smith directed the Lady Cobras’ offensive charge with three singles. Ashley, Vaughn and Gladden provided a pair of singles. Brinson, Middleton and Britt had a single each.

Raven Blackwell was the top slugger for St. Patrick with two singles. Raylen Blackwell ripped a double. Anna D’Aquailla, Morgan Redmond and Castanedo hit safely.
